Hutton's Wall
In 1801, at the age of 78, William Hutton walked 600 miles from Burmingham to Wallsend, then along the Roman Wall and back to Birmingham... in 35 days.
Hutton expected to be the first and last person ever to walk the Wall...
But for quaint facts and graceful prose his diary could have been written yesterday. From Chesters to Carvoran, within what is now Northumberland National Park, Hutton was able to see the Wall at its very best.
