National Park Authority concern over landscape impact of wind farm
The Northumberland National Park Authority Development Management Committee today decided to object to the construction of a wind farm which is proposed close to the National Park boundary at Wingates Moor, Longframlington.
The committee considered that the three, 121m tall wind turbines would have a significant landscape impact on the character of the National Park.
Chairman of the Development Management Committee, Rachel Pearson stated: 'The Authority strongly supports small scale renewable energy initiatives and has only refused three planning applications for small scale renewable energy projects since 2005. In the case of this proposal the Committee decided to object to the application as it considered that the development would impact on the sense of openness and tranquillity of the National Park for both residents and visitors and it is likely to alter their perception and enjoyment of this nationally recognised landscape.'
The final decision on the application will be made in March by Northumberland County Council. A copy of the Planning Officers report is available at http://www.northumberlandnationalpark.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/198995/2012003Rpt11NP0021COVers2.pdf
At the same committee meeting the Authority granted planning permission for the change of use of a building within Holystone to holiday accommodation. It was considered that the proposal utilises an existing building and will provide opportunities for people to understand and enjoy the special qualities of the National Park.
