Summer 2011 - Climate Change Adaptation Report

DroughtHotter, drier summers
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today. The English National Park Authorities believe that the management of our National Parks has a major contribution to make to adapting to the inevitable changes ahead. This will be crucial to the future of National Parks themselves, but it is equally important nationally and indeed globally.

Changing our behaviour to respond to the impacts of climate change is known as 'adaptation'.

FloodWarmer, wetter winters
Northumberland National Park Authority voluntarily agreed to become a Reporting Authority to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). Northumberland National Park's Climate Change Adaptation Report (2011-2015) has been written after engagement with:

  • Newcastle University
  • Natural England
  • The Forestry Commission
  • The Environment Agency
  • Northumberland County Council
  • Climate North East
  • The Cheviot Futures Steering Group

Although it is a significantly worked-up document, there is still time for you to have your say before the final version is published and submitted the Defra. The total public consultation period is around six weeks.

  • From 1st to 14th March 2011 (version 1.0)
  • From 25th July to 26th August 2011 (version 3.3)
