Sustainability Statement

The National Park Authority is committed to ensuring that it meets its social and environmental responsibilities whilst carrying out day to day operations. To this effect the Authority has compiled a ‘sustainability statement’ which consists of the following guidelines.

The Authority will:

  • Comply with the requirements of national legislation concerning environmental and social responsibility and look to continuously improve upon their performance in these areas.
  • Ensure that all staff understand the Authority’s approach and are given the opportunity to contribute to sustainable practice.
  • Ensure that visitors to National Park sites are fully aware of the Authority’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility and are given opportunities to feedback or contribute.
  • Monitor and reduce the Authority’s consumption of resources (water, electricity, paper, heating fuels etc)
  • Monitor and reduce the amount of landfill waste produced (recycling, composting, reusing etc).
  • Ensure that local produce, services and skills are prioritised when purchasing. Resources and services will be purchased according to the Authority’s sustainable procurement policy.

  • Produce a staff travel plan in order to make the most efficient use of vehicles and reduce the amount of fuel consumed. The Authority will always promote the use of alternative or public transport.
  • Strive to foster the natural and cultural environment in which it operates.
